Charlie is a good dog who got a bad start.  We have no knowledge of his history and where he came from, but we are pretty sure he has not lived in a house with people.  When he first came to us, he hid from the dishwasher, barked at the television and ran away when first presented with stuffed toys.  He remains easily spooked by noise, but is improving – getting used to the dishwasher, the television, the stuffed dog toys and other day-to-day items in the house. 

Physically, he was in pretty bad condition - He was positive for tick illnesses (we gave him Doxy and he is doing bettter now), his coat and skin were in horrible condition (we've given him good nutrition and he's looking a lot better), his teeth were Grade 3 dental disease (we gave him a dental and they are all clean now)!  Charlie weighs about 63 lbs.

Charlie is a quick learner, and is adapting to life in a home with his foster collie sister.  He is learning commands and is starting to recognize his name.  We do not crate him, but leave it open and he often sleeps in there.  He is respectful of the house and items in it, and does not jump on the furniture.  He is very cooperative - He pretty much will stand still for almost anything if you ask him to especially if you scratch him – he loves to be scratched.  He grooms well, and is very affectionate.  His fur is growing in nicely since he needed to have some extensive matting shaved. 

 He’s very focused on understanding and fitting into his new environment.  He watches intensely and you can see the wheels turning as he tries to figure it all out.  He is interested in other dogs and people, and has shown no aggression toward either – but he will bark in the backyard at passing people (and squirrels) with his sister, who loves to do that.  

Charlie is quite smart and very eager to please.

We estimate his age to be about 6 years old.  

Have you ever seen a more handsome tricolor collie boy? Meet Zuki — a friendly, fun-loving 3-year-old with a big personality and an even bigger heart.

Zuki had a few understandably sad days when he first arrived at his foster home, but it didn’t take long for his happy spirit to shine through. Now he’s thriving and loving life. A slightly “fluffy” gentleman at the moment, Zuki is proudly working on his fitness journey (he was well fed!) and has fully embraced his healthy lifestyle. Early morning hikes through the woods and backyard playdates are quickly becoming his favorite activities.

One of the best things about Zuki is how much he enjoys other dogs. He would absolutely love a home with a canine companion to play with and keep him company. He’s also become a wonderful walking buddy — after just a little practice, he now strolls beautifully on leash through neighborhoods and wooded trails alike.

Zuki is a social guy who enjoys outings to hardware stores, nurseries, and anywhere he can meet new people and collect compliments. He previously lived with children, but because he has some strong herding instincts, he would likely do best in a home with older kids who understand dog behavior.

At home, Zuki is an easy and lovable companion. He’s fully housebroken, has excellent indoor manners, and faithfully sleeps beside his foster mom’s bed every night. He also takes his household “security patrol” duties very seriously and will proudly keep watch at the front door.

Zuki is truly a wonderful young dog — affectionate, engaging, and full of potential. He’s ready to bring joy, laughter, and loyal companionship to the lucky family who welcomes him home.

Lenny is a fairly new arrival to his foster home, and he is doing great! He is a well-mannered adult collie, housebroken, smart, and loving. He plays well with his collie foster siblings and is great at turn taking. He is very much a Velcro dog, following his foster mom everywhere she goes! He’s affectionate and gives little kisses. Lenny loves hiking in the snow, and bursts into play regularly! He’s a neutered male and is doing well with dogs of all genders and ages. He is very polite in the house, knows “sit,” walks well on a leash, and rides well in a car. In public he is confident and curious and wants to meet all the people! 

 Abba has been adopted and is living in Baltimore with her new family where she is getting lots of love and walks.

Ace has found his forever home!  He is now living with his new family in Vienna, VA.  They have another dog, Connor, who was adopted through CRI, and Conner and Ace were buddies the very first time they met.  Also a plus, they have 2 cats, and Ace very much LOVES cats!

Ace is just the sweetest collie boy that you will ever meet.  He walks nicely on a leash, is ok with grooming and just loves people.  He was rescued from a tough situation where he was neglected but has now hit the jackpot with his new forever family. 

Adele has been adopted and is starting off her new life in Gaithersburg, MD!

Welcome to the world, Adele! This pup was born on June 23, 2016 along with seven others in her litter. Check out the attached video of all the puppies! A picture of their mother, Cindy, is also attached.

The puppy’s mom, Cindy, came into Collie Rescue, Inc. in late June. The very next morning, she gave birth to a litter of nine puppies. Unfortunately, one pup did not survive. However, all of the other pups are doing great, and all of them are available for adoption!

The puppies are currently being fostered in Midland, Virginia, so you must be willing to go there to meet the puppies before adoption. The puppies will not be able to go to their new home until they are 8 weeks old (August 18th).  The puppies are a mix.

Aidan has found a new home and is living in Mannassas, Virginia with his new best friend!

Meet Aidan, a 6 or 7-year-old male collie. Aidan is a really friendly guy who has a beautiful, gentle soul.  He’s getting settled into his foster home and is nervous about all the changes. As he is cautious about new places.   We do know that he gets along great with dogs of all sizes, and is very respectful to other animals.

His foster mom says that Aidan is playful enough for a young family, but quiet enough for an older family.  In fact, we feel he is quite a good ambassador of the collie breed!  Health-wise, he is in great shape.  He just got a dental checkup and is good to go!

Aidan is going to be an absolute treasure for the family lucky enough to bring him home!

Allie has been adopted! She has moved to Gaithersburg, MD! She has a great new family and loves her new canine brother (a coonhound mix named Puddy!).  They love to romp and play and have a great time - let's all hear it for Allie! YAY! 🙂

Allie is a sweet beautiful blue merle five year old collie girl who was given up because her owner could no longer care for her.

Allie is a true delight!  She’s a very calm, mellow, lady who loves to be near you, loves to get out and see the world on her walks and really loves to get her butt rubbed.  (She sticks her nose in the air and makes soft noises of delight.)

She also enjoys getting brushed, which is a good thing because she has a full, thick, beautiful coat.

Allie has great house and people manners.  She gets along very well with her big brother collie. 

She doesn’t appear to have had any formal training, but she does know basic commands, listens well, comes when called and is very eager to please.   She's sleeps quietly in her crate and her foster family reports that there have been no "accidents" or any other issues with her.  She's a wonderful girl!

Amber is a collie-sheltie mix (the best of both worlds!)who we estimate to be about 1.5 years old.  She was picked up as a stray by a shelter in rural Virginia (near the Tennessee border). 

Amber is a sweet and playful pup in a pint sized package at just 37 pounds. She rides beautifully in the car.  Amber walks well on a leash and loves her people.  She is good with other dogs, but would prefer a home where she is the queen!

Anderson is on his way to Brick, New Jersey to live with his new family!  Way to go, Anderson!

Welcome to the world, Anderson! This pup was born on June 23, 2017 along with six others in the litter.  A picture of their mother is also attached.  Their father was Shiloh, a dog that we recently adopted to a great home.  So, these are purebred collie pups!!

Angel was adopted by a wonderful couple and is living in Vienna, VA. She is enjoying going on long walks and finally getting the attention and time that she deserves!

Angel will be 3 years old in July of this year. She is a petite collie girl who is very friendly. Angel is looking for a best friend to spend time with. She is an active dog who likes to play ball (she'll bring it back to you every time!). Yet, so far, she seems to settle down when in the home (as long as she gets her exercise!). Angel knows some words (like sit, down, wait) and she is pretty smart, as she is picking up on new ones in her foster home! We're still getting to know this girl, so please check back for updates!

Angel has been adopted and is now living in Red Lion, PA where he has a brand new collie brother, as well as a new awesome name, "Archer!"

Angel is a sweet tricolor male collie born in March 2023.  He's a gorgeous boy who has filled out beautifully this winter and is in perfect physical condition.  When he plays with other dogs, he shows off his speed and athleticism.  Angel is alert and intelligent, and loves to play.  As a member of his little pack at his foster home, he is very happy to be the sweet, young guy who is always up for a game of tag or a little wrestle. He absolutely loves tennis balls and other toys.

He also gets along with every dog he meets!  He hasn’t met a dog he doesn’t love -- young or old, large or small. Angel would be happiest if he had a canine sister or brother to romp with in a fenced-in yard, and an outdoorsy family who enjoys exploring the countryside or trails with a loyal companion.  When he is inside, he settles down nicely. He is happy to go into his puppy pen at naptime and bedtime, and never complains or makes a peep. He would be very happy if his new family provides him with a large crate or puppy pen where he can retire when things get a bit too busy At mealtime, he is polite and quietly waits his turn.  He also comes running whenever called - hoping you'll give him a robust butt scratch.

This little angel doesn’t have a mean bone in his body, and he really wants to find a new home where his playfulness and spirit will be embraced, so he can start having adventures with his very own people. 

Angel is a collie girl whose owner dumped her at the shelter in miserable condition. She was severely underweight, flea ridden (and she had allergic reactions to them), and had a severe yeast infection in her ears. We cleaned her up and now she's working on gaining weight and just resting! Angel is probably about 11 years old. She spends her days sleeping, going for short walks, eating, and just lazing around. The Houston Collie Rescue took in Angel as she was in very poor condition. She was underweight and had demodectic mange. Thanks to the efforts of many generous volunteers, Angel was flown on a private jet to Ohio and then transported by car to us! She is now in a foster home getting all of the love and attention that she deserves! Angel responded well to all of her foster's love and care, and she is doing great now!

Angel is a very curious girl - she likes to investigate everything! She loves to run as fast as her little legs will take her and will chase anything that moves. Wow - check out this cutie!  This is sweet puppy Anna - a tricolor collie puppy that is only two months old! She was born in April 2016. She is incredibly friendly and people-oriented, curious and confident. Anna is learning to go potty outside and will learn to be housebroken after a few more months.   Anna loves to explore and investigate, but won't stray too far away from people!  If she notices that you are starting to walk away,  you'll hear her pitter-patter paws following you! Annie is a sweet elderly collie around 9-11 years old. She was found at a shelter, but no one wanted to adopt her because of her age... Meet Annie! This sweet girl came to CRI because her previous owner did not have enough time for her. She was in her crate too much and we need to find a family for her where she can truly enjoy a happy collie life.

Apollo has been adopted! He is now a northerner, living in upstate NY with his wonderful new family. As the only pup in the family, he's enjoying being the center of attention and taking every advantage with lots of walks and playtime!

Apollo is a sweet, playful sheltie puppy about 10 to 12 months old.  He enjoys playing with other dogs and running around his fenced yard. It just makes him so happy, which is not hard to do with this cheerful guy.

Apollo is smart and very responsive to his foster mom. He is good with all people, walks well on a leash, and is crate trained and housebroken.  He needs a home that will continue his puppy training and help him grow into a wonderful adult sheltie.

Update:
She loves to be around people and get lots of pets and attention. She is great with other dogs and cats. She is very
quiet and mellow, and loves to take long, slow walks. She is a bit overweight but has been started on a weight management plan. She doesn't have a playful toy drive, but she loves to chew on bones. April is attentive and willing to please. She walks very well on a leash, and seems to be house trained as well.

Update: She enjoys taking a nice snooze in the car. (See picture 3). But in all seriousness, who DOESN'T like taking a nice snooze in the car?

UPDATE: Arlo has recovered from surgery to remove his Grade 2 Mast Cell Tumor and is doing just fine. Arlo also had extensive testing done to determine the presence of any more cancer in his body. He has had ultrasounds, x-rays, lymph node aspirations and bloodwork and all of his tests have come back negative for cancer! His last step is to have a round of radiation done on the surgery site of his leg to kill off any cancer cells that still may be lingering there. Without radiation Arlo has a 44% chance that his cancer will come back.
 
Mast Cell Tumors are believed to be caused by poor diets high in corn, wheat, soy and other grains making up a majority of the nutrition. Arlo is currently eating Taste of the Wild (grain free) Buffalo and Venison formula along with various types of home cooked meats mixed in. He also gets Salmon Oil to boost his immunity along with dark berries (cancer fighting antioxidents). It is very unlikely Arlo's cancer will return as long as he continues to eat a healthy, grain free diet. He is a young dog, at only 3 years old, and being healthy and holistic is his ticket to a long and happy life!
 
Arlo LOVES playing with other dogs (of all sizes, lives with a chihuahua, catahoula and border collie) and loves people. He can be rowdy with the big dogs and soooo sweet and gentle with the little ones. He is crate trained, neutered and UTD on shots. He is a very low energy dog and likes to nap in dog bed, carry around his soft toys, and go for walks. He is wonderful with people (doesnt jump or act hyper in any way) and children of all ages from infants and up. He walks beautifully on a leash and waits at his food dish to be told to eat. He is VERY laid back and isn't a "typical male" catahoula in any way. Sweet sweet boy, all the way around. His only fear...thunderstorms. He just needs a dark corner to hide in.

Arlo was found dumped at a rural shelter in an "overnight drop box", abandoned by his family for unknown reasons. His front teeth are worn down, a sign he spent quite a bit of time knawing his way out of chain link pens. Arlo had a difficult adjusting to the noise and stress of living in a shelter. He was not eating and was making himself sicker and sicker and the days wore on. Multiple visits to the vet revealed that nothing was wrong, stress and anxiety were taking its toll.
 
Arlo was mislabled as an "aussie/coon hound mix" and didn't attract much attention for a home. Luckily a catahoula-savy person spotted him and saw how badly he needed OUT. Due to his extreme shyness and stress, the shelter considered him unadoptable, and scheduled his euthansia that friday. The wednesday before his PTS date Arlo was saved! He was pulled, terrified, from the shelter and hasn't looked back since.
 
His good fortune wouldnt last long however. Three days after he was pulled from the shelter, he was taken to the vet for a check up and treatment for yeast infections in his ears. I noticed a small, fluid-filled, lump just near his elbow. Cyst? I assumed. I asked my vet to take a look at it. It turns out, Arlo did not have a cyst. He has a Stage Two Mast Cell Tumor and will need aggressive treatment in order to save his leg, and even his life. The cost for his treatment so far is totaling approx. 700.00 dollars. He has had surgery to remove the tumor, and this friday he goes back for more bloodwork, ultrasounds and x-rays of his body cavity to rule out the presence of any more cancer. If these tests come back clear, Arlo will need to go to VA TECH to have radiation therapy done on the surgery site of his leg. Without radiation, it is almost 100% likely that the cancer will regrow. Arlo is not a good candidate for amputation of his leg due to his conformation. He has "quarter horse hips", meaning his back end sits up higher then his withers (shoulders). If he loses a front leg then he will only have one good front leg to bear the forward weight and this will cause early arthritis in his shoulder, elbow and wrist, as well as other early onset joint problems. I have spent money I don't even have, and I'm not sure how I can even afford to pay his vet, my vet of many years and good friend and training competitor.
 
Aside from Arlo's cancer treatment, he is a wonderful dog, a true gem of the canine world. He is silly, slobbery, loves squeeky toys and is learning what is like to be a dog. He came to me a terrified shell of a dog, and has blossomed into everything that makes a dog so wonderful. He gets along with all dogs, cats, kids, and people. He loves his "girlfriend", my female catahoula, and they are never far apart. He is so  good he doesn't even have to be crated and never even thinks about getting on furniture or the bed. He loves to go for walks and even will let you know at 8am and 8pm on the dot that you are running late! He is such a wonderful dog, and it is just so unfortunate that after all he has been though, the finiancial difficulties of cancer treatment is the last straw that is holding him back from "being in the clear".

Artie is a loving, friendly boy.  He is completely housetrained, affectionate, and gets along well with other dogs.  He is feeling so much better now that he has had a badly needed dental cleaning, and takes a beta blocker medication to control the cardiac arrhythmia.  He is like a different dog since coming into rescue and getting the care he needed, he trots in the yard, eats very well, plays with the other dogs at times, and is overall a happy affectionate boy.  His coat is coming back in from being shaved and he is just adorable.  Artie is an easy, wonderful companion.

Ashley enjoys going on walks and loves to cuddle with her humans! She is a great companion dog!

August has been adopted and is living in Baltimore, MD.  He's moving into a home with another collie (Artie) who was rescued by CRI earlier this year!  He's already made himself right at home, and is enjoying tons of love from his new family. 

August is a sweet older boy indeed!  He is gentle and quiet, and loves being around people and other dogs.  He is about 10-12 years old, but is quite healthy for his age and is current on all his vaccines.  He's a little thin right now, so his foster family his helping him gain some additional weight.

Like many of us, thunderstorms and scary situations can frighten him a bit!  August is an older dog, so he does have some trouble getting up a lot of stairs nowadays, so he may be best in a home where he can roam the house freely without the need to use a lot of stairs.

Ava is a 6-month old female collie, newly arrived at Collie Rescue. She is full of puppy energy and loves to run and jump and chew her toys. We are still learning about her, but so far we know she rides well in the car, and get's on great with her fellow canine pals. She has been around cats, too, in the past, but plays a little rough with them. Ava also loves belly rubs and giving kisses.

Ava was born in early June 2016 along with four others in the litter.  Their mother is a collie mix (see attached picture).  A rural Virginia shelter had no place to keep these puppies, so Collie Rescue, Inc. stepped in to help find them some new forever homes! 

Ava is a very sweet puppy who is learning all about the world!  She is adapting very quickly and loves to cuddle with people and play with other dogs.  She is working on her housetraining and walking on a leash.

Avie is a sweet boy who was born on 3-23-2011 in Germany.  His family had to give him up because there was a sudden change in their living situation when they moved back to the US.  Avie has been well cared for!

Avie likes other dogs and is good with children (even small ones although he does like to herd!).   Avie can be a little shy when he first meets you, but he does warm right up.    He is still a baby, so he is learning not to chew things that aren't meant to be chewed and to ride in the car without getting car sick (that takes practice)!  He knows how to sit and come and how to snuggle!!!

Azure is now living outside Pittsburgh, PA with her new family, where she will get lots of play time and love!

Bailey is settling in with his foster family.  Approx. 7 years old, he's a big, friendly, solid boy with a thick full coat that could easily get away from you. Luckily, he likes getting brushed!   He could stand to lose a few pounds, and his daily 2 mile walks will help with that.

Around the house, he's a very calm, curious and respectful lad.  He really likes to be with his people and would be a great, low maintence, easy going,  companion dog or family dog that has people around most of the time.

He knows basic commands, gives paw, walks well on his leash, 

Very food motivated, it would take him a lunch hour to get his CGC. Yep, he's smart as a whip.

He was given up by his owner because he said he had thunderstorm anxiety.  While we've observed a slight level of stress during some recent storms, it was rather mild - we've seen a lot worse.   However loud noises, trucks, alarms, sirens, lawn mowers, vacuums and recorded thunderstorm sounds don't bother him at all. 

He's currently on medication to balance his thyroid level and is scheduled to get some needed dental work in the next few weeks.

Bailey has been adopted by a wonderful family and is staying local in MD!  He is looking forward to being the sole recipient of all the attention and care (and I'm sure there is likely a warm sofa in his future!)

Bailey is a very friendly 2-3 year old male Collie. He is playful and loves to go on walks, but is a mellow boy at heart. He loves to lie by his foster mom's side on the front porch and watch people go by. Give Bailey a couch with a human on it, and he is up there right next to you with his paws on your lap, waiting for some love. He is also very comfortable hanging out in his crate (open door) when he is inside.

Bailey loves all people and dogs. He's been having a great time with the dogs around his foster mom's home! Although he is OK with cats, we feel it is best if he goes to a home without them. He adores being groomed and petted, and especially loves butt scratches. Don't blame him because his coat was shaved before he came to Collie Rescue. We know he will have a gorgeous collie coat, when it grows out.

Bailey came from a very rural setting, and was not familiar with suburban noises and routines, but he learned quickly how to walk on a loose lead. He likes to work for treats and responds well to obedience training. He is polite, respectful, still a bit under-confident (although has made giant strides there!!), listens well, walks well on a leash, does not stray when we play in the front yard, and really is a fine young pup. Given the chance (which we don't!), Bailey would love to chase bikes passing by. He gets excited when he sees them passing on the road. Bailey will be a great all-around family dog, and will benefit from additional exercises to boost his confidence.

Bailey is neutered, up-to-date on vaccines.

Bailey has found a new home in Round Hill, Virginia! She is going to get tons of love from her new family. 

Miss Bailey is about four years old and is a smooth collie mix. She is still getting adjusted with her foster family until she can find her forever home! 

Her foster family said that she can be somewhat nervous in new situations and surroundings.  When she arrived at their home, she cautiously explored the new space and new people.  But once Bailey realized that she would get a ton of love with butt scratches and chest rubs from her new human friends, she stayed right by their side! Now she follows them around the house, staying close. When new people come into the house, she will eventually approach them with a cautious greeting and smells them before she can be comfortable. 

She's also become quite the vigilant watchdog for anything out of the norm around the house.  Whether it's a knock at the door or some squirrels in the yard, she alerts everyone about the change and gets excited and barks. She likes to play and patrol around their backyard too.

Her foster family is working to help her walk better on a leash; right now she likes to crisscross back and forth to smell all the awesome smells and seek out squirrels in the neighborhood. During her walks, she doesn't mind other people and bikes that are out and about. However, she gets really, really excited and noisy when she sees other dogs and cannot wait to get over and meet them. Once she gets to meet them, she calms down and has great manners, but we are trying to work with her on her excitement level. 

Overall, Bailey has a very calm disposition and doesn’t seem needy of much attention. She isn’t very food-motivated, but will sit nicely for you if it means cheese is involved.  She does very well in cars, and had no hesitation jumping right in and settling in for a snooze.  She also does well in her crate at night, and likes to go in and out of her crate on her own during the day. She loves to get brushed and bathed!

Bailey has moved to Wenonah, NJ with her great new family!  She has a new sheltie brother - Micah.  And, she is looking forward to lots of long walks and playtime!

It was Bailey's lucky day!  She found a great home in Gaithersburg, Maryland where she will have plenty of play time with her new family and furry friends!

Meet sweet Bailey!  She is a young puppy who turned one year old in May.  She is a bit shy, but is quite a sweetheart!  She really opens up with other dogs though, so we’re hoping to find Bailey a home where she can live with another confident dog.  She also does well with cats!  We think she would do best in a home without children.

Bailey is still getting used to new situations and environments, especially neighborhoods where there is a lot of activity and loud noises.   Her foster family is helping expose her to new people.  They say Bailey has shown herself to be a typical smart collie – easy to train and quick to learn!  Yummy treats are a favorite thing to keep her focused, but toys are what really brings out her playfulness.

Congrats to Bailey!  He's now living in Charlottesville, Virginia with a new collie brother and a great new best friend!

Bailey is an awesome young pup – born only on March 14, 2018.  He is a collie mix. This ambitious and sweet boy loves to meet new people and gives plenty of licks to let others know he feels comfortable calling you a friend.

He’s a smart guy too! His foster family says he is quite observant, makes great eye contact, and tilts his head to let you know he is paying attention and curious. In no time at all, he quickly figured out the proper way to walk on a leash and does well staying at your side.  He’s cautiously curious about new places and new objects, sniffing out every inch to make sure he’s collected all the information he needs. Once you let him outside, he loves to get out and explore, running around the backyard with puppy zooms. He also seems great on car rides and is confident jumping into the car and sitting down to enjoy the ride.

Bailey has been neutered and house trained, and does well holding in his pee overnight. However, being a puppy, he does need to go often throughout the day and will sit by the patio door and give a little yelp to let you know he is there.  He also needs to be watched carefully, as he is prone to chewing things!  

This pup is about 69 pounds, and could stand to lose a few pounds. Luckily, he is already working on it. He sleeps well in his crate and snoozes there all through the night without a peep. When his foster family is away from the house, he tends hang out in his crate during the day.

Bailey is an overall sweet, curious, fun boy. He likes to hang out near his foster family and has found a couple spots to curl up and watch everything happening in the house. We hope we can find him his perfect forever home!

Bailey just needs a loving home to call his own...

Bailey is about 6 months old and was an owner surrender when he accidentally broke his leg jumping over a babygate. This smart little cutie patootie basically loves everything. He's great with dogs, cats, children, adults, is crate trained, anxious to please, uber-Friendly, and good-natured. In his short little life, he's already mastered Sit, Down, and Give paw! Normally Bailey would love to play, but he's on bedrest right now while he is healing).. in the mean time, he is enjoying chewing on bones and lots of belly rubs and attention from his foster family. Bailey broke his right front leg accidentally when he jumped a baby gate when he was about 5 months old. The family could not afford the surgery recommended by the attending doctor, so his leg was splinted. The family decided to give Bailey up three weeks later, at which point they contacted CRI. After he was in our care, we took him to an orthopedic specialist. Upon inspection, the x-rays showed that the bone had started to mend in a manner that the surgeon was pleased with. Currently, Bailey is undergoing heat and physical therapy twice a day and will begin short walks soon. His leg is being monitored as it heals, and seems to be headed to a good outcome. This cute little monkey bear will probably go fast because he's just so precious. Apply quickly!

Bailey has been adopted, and is living all the way in New Hampshire.  Not only does he have a new family, he also has two new canine pals to play with him in the yard!  He really lucked out with a huge, loving family.  You're living the good life, Bailey!

He's a young collie who is nearly 2 years old.  He's a very sweet boy who loves to play, especially if it's wrestling with other dogs!  Bailey would do well in a house who can give him exercise to let out his youthful energy.  When he's outside, he loves to race around in the yard.  When inside, he will settle down and enjoy his toys.  He's incredibly friendly and affectionate, and very happy and playful collie.

Bandit is a one year old smooth coat collie. He is very active and looking for a family who will enjoy spending time with him. Bandit knows a lot of words such as sit, stay, down, off, drop it, give, roll over... He likes to ride in the car and is good with other dogs and cats. Bandit came into our rescue on 10/30/07, so we are learning more about him.

Barry has hit the jackpot and is living with his newly adopted family in Arlington, VA.  He's playing with his collie siblings and looking forward to going to the dog park every day!  We're also happy to report also that even though he has three legs, he mastered the stairs (up and down) in no time!

This cute little boy was hanging around the neighborhood of one of our collie foster mom's homes. After about a week, she put out a humane cat trap and caught him. He is a loving, sweet little boy who was just unsure of what was going on. He is beginning to settle into his foster home. He uses a litter box. He loves to talk to you and tell you about his day. Baxter also enjoys other dgos! He is estimated to be about 18 months or so. His orange and white coloring is very striking. Baxter is looking for an indoor home only as he has spent enough cold nights outside.

Way to go, Bea! She has been adopted and living in Conneticut with her new collie brother and mom and dad!

Our cute little Bear has been adopted! Bear was adopted by a family in Vienna who also have a very cute pomeranian. Bear will be enjoyings lots of walks and tons of love and attention! 

Meet Mr. Bear! One of our volunteers saw this 8-year-old Pomeranian at a kill shelter when she was getting his Sheltie sister out and had to take him too. He is an extremely sweet little guy - well, maybe not so little - he's got a few pounds to lose. His foster mom has him on a healthy diet with exercise to get him down to a healthy weight.

Bear is fine with other dogs and cats is just a happy guy. He walks well on a lead and seems pretty go with the flow. He loves to be petted and get lots of attention. He especially seems to like attention from kids!

Bear has really started to come out of his shell. After having a much needed dental and getting rid of a horrible infection in his mouth, and going on thyroid meds and dropping a couple of pounds,he has turned into a pretty talkative, active little guy.  

Bear is looking for a home with another playful dog and someone willing to take him on a couple of walks a day.  He needs this activity to help maintain his weight so he can stay healthy. 

Beau has been adopted by a wonderful couple in Charlotte Hall, MD.  He now has a spunky collie sister to play chase with and will get lots of walks and love!

Update on Beau! Beau is a lovely energetic boy and absolutely loves to play.  He likes other dogs of all sizes, especially ones that will chase him.  He comes when called and is learning some basic commands such as sit and down.  He is crate trained.  He is very curious and eager to please, wants to be right in the middle of the action! We are still learning which kinds of teats Beau likes to eat. He is very much a puppy still at 3 yrs. old  He is affectionate and such a happy boy.  He is truly delightful.

Beau is a rambunctious, 3 and a half year old collie boy that loves to play. Beau loves other dogs and is very friendly. This sweet boy is always on the go and is looking for a family to match his high energy! 

Beau loves being collie! He's a happy, confident guy who absolutely loves life. He's very outgoing and just an all around great collie.

Beau would benefit from some training and is currently learning not to jump.

Beau is a purebred Saint Bernard, low drooler, approximately 4 years old, 141 lbs., and an absolute sweetheart. If you want a dog willing to go for long meandering walks through the woods, here's your dog. He has us leash trained, and loves to take his humans for walks. He is house trained, crate trained, and really prefers to be inside with his family.

He was rescued at the last minute (literally!) from a shelter, so not much is known about his puppyhood. What we DO know is that he is incredibly loving, very well behaved, and in the last year of fostering with us has proven himself to be an all around great dog. He loves to run and play chase with our dogs, has shown no food or toy aggression, and is heartworm negative.

Bella is a sweet, petite collie girl weighing in at about 40lbs.  She was seized (along with her "sister", Luna) by animal control from her neglectful owner.  She is about 4 years old.

Bella has been adopted! Bella is enjoying the good life with her wonderful family in New Jersey. She has two new feline siblings and is looking forward to weekends at the beach!

Bella is a purebred collie puppy who was born on 12/12/2009.  The breeder sold her to a wonderful family who found out at her first vet visit that she had Patent Ductus Arteriosus  more commonly referred to as PDA.   In most cases, PDA can be corrected with surgery.    The vet advised the family to bring her back to the breeder, and they did.  They ended up taking a healthy pup from the litter.  However, two weeks later, the breeder contacted them and asked them to take Bella (no cost involved this time), as she could not care for the pup (this is not right!!!! – note that this condition is usually inherited as a genetic trait). Well, the family took her, and brought her to a cardiologist , but found out that the surgery to fix her would cost over $3,000.  They had never envisioned having 2 dogs, and had already spent over $800 in medical bills for Bella alone – they could not afford the surgery to fix her, so they asked us to take her.  CRI took her to Dr. Rosenthal at Chesapeake Veterinary Cardiology Associates and she received the surgery she needed.

Info on PDA

The ductus arteriosus is a blood vessel that connects the two main arteries of the body -- the aorta and the pulmonary artery. This blood vessel is normal in the fetus, but at birth, the vessel should close. When the ductus arteriosus is persistently open (patent) after birth, extra blood can flow into the blood vessels of the lungs. The resulting condition poses a serious health problem to your pet.

Bella is due to go back for her check up in 3 months.  And, the prognosis is that she will lead a normal, healthy life!    She is currently resting for 2 weeks, and after that she will have no restrictions.

So far she is responding well to crate training and she loves to give kisses and nibbles!  She loves other dogs and cats.   And, seems to be a very easy going sweet pup.    Bella will be ready for adoption April 1^st!  But, please complete our adoption questionnaire NOW if you are interested in adopting her!

After a long wait for the right family to come along, Bella's patience paid off!  She has found a new home with a great couple in Connecticut.  Way to go, Bella! We are all cheering for you!

Bella is looking for someone with a kind heart to love her, and she has tons of cuddles ready to give!  We know she will make a wonderful addition to a very lucky family!  Bella is a wonderful, sweet girl looking for a new home.  She is approximately 7 years old and we believe she is a beagle mix.

Bella is currently staying in a foster home, and her foster moms says she is a real sweetie pie!  She has been enjoying a wonderful temporary home with dog toys, a soft bed, warm meals, extra treats, and new friends (dogs and cats) to play with!  Once she has a fun play session, she loves to settle down to take a nap.

Bella may be somewhat timid at first, but once she sniffs you out, she will be sure to steal your heart!  She's full of glee when you come home at night, making sure you know how much she loves you.  And when it's time to settle in for the evening, she thinks snuggles on the couch are a little piece of heaven. 

She went to the vet in October and had her teeth cleaned, which means she can give sweet kisses to everyone! Bella has splayed feet and is on medication (Gabapentin) to help with some of the discomfort in her legs.  We aren’t sure what caused her feet to look the way they do, but the medication has been helping her and she doesn’t mind being a unique and a special dog! Despite her legs, she loves to romp around the backyard, play in the leaves, and smell the wind blowing through the trees.  She doesn't let anything hold her back.

Bella is otherwise really healthy, eats great, and is full of hound enthusiasm!  She will often bark to alert her people of new strangers, but she doesn't bark much inside the house. Her foster mom says Bella is really smart and knows many commands like "sit," "shake," "sit pretty," and "beg.   Bella seems deferential to smaller dogs. If her future home has larger dogs, she may do better if the large dogs have mellow personalities.

This sweet pup is, without a doubt, a special and loving girl who deserves a caring home.  She is eager to find a new family member to cuddle up with forever and share her love. 

Sweet Bella is proud to announce that she has found herself a wonderful family!   She now lives in Stafford, VA. and is enjoying all of the attention and love that she deserves!

Bella is a beautiful buff female cocker spaniel, small weighing only 15 lbs. She lived her first 3 years in a Texas puppy mill living in a crate most, if not all of a 24 hour day. She had little socialization with humans during these 3 years, however you wouldn't know it because she just loves people.

She really is looking for a family who likes to cuddle!  She will continue to need an understanding home environment until she is completely potty trained. Bella exhibits no aggression and should do well in a home with older children. She enjoys the company of other dogs, loves playing with doggy toys, treats, and she can't wait for dinner.

Bella must stay on a low protein diet because we believe her kidneys were compromised during her transport by a puppy miller.  A low protein diet is not more expensive than other diets!

Belle has been adopted into a wonderful home in Alexandria, where she's enjoying the company of her two golden friends! 

Belle has found her new home with a wonderful family in Silver Spring, Maryland!

This sweet, smart, and friendly girl is almost one year old.  Belle was born on May 16, 2020.  Belle was born with a congenital birth defect (a right-sided ectopic ureter). She also has an intra-pelvic bladder and short urethra. The ectopic ureter was laser ablated to a normal position within the bladder. Belle did very well with the procedure and has had a full recovery. She is also spayed. Now, she is looking for an active home where she can romp around and play! Belle loves traveling to new places and meeting new people and furry friends. If you have the time for a great, friendly, and energetic puppy, please contact us! 

This loving girl found her perfect match! She is living with a great family in Vienna, Virginia.

Beautiful Belle is a very sweet collie girl who is 1.5 years old.  She is very friendly and affectionate, although a little shy when first meeting people, but warms up very quickly.  But once she gets comfortable with you, Belle is very playful and likes to jump up, which is something we will work with her on.  

She is having a blast in her foster home with several other dogs, and her favorite game is the race around the yard at full speed.  She loves other dogs, but we have learned that she can play quite rough so she should only play with dogs that are bigger than her.  Therefore, we are looking for a home with no cats or other dogs in the house. She could live in a home with younger dogs who weigh more than 65 pounds.  Although rough during playtime, she does very well with people and children. 

Although she is a young dog with a lot of energy, she likes to settle down and cuddle with you. She is crate-trained and does pretty well in the house, despite not having any formal training. Overall, Belle is healthy and weighs about 55 pounds. This girl will be a delightful addition to her future family!

Hi guys! My name is Ben and I love being a collie. I'm about 3-4 years
old and my foster mom tells me I'm the best boy ever! I love to play in
my big back yard; I get very excited when I see a squirrel, and while I
try to catch them, they are too fast for me. Sometimes I play tag with
my foster dad. He's usually "It" and chases me around the yard. I'm
learning to walk on a lead and I'm getting better at it every day.
Since I got to Collie Rescue, I've learned how to sit, and go down
(although that one's tough for me on hardwood floors!), and I'm working
on stay and come. I'm a go with the flow kind of guy, who's happy being
active when my foster family goes hiking, running, or on a trip in the
car, but I also love snuggling. During the day, I like to be in my
crate, but whenever my parents are home, I like to hang out with them.
I just learned how to run and jump right in the car, and I love to
stick my head out the window! I'm not much of a barker - my foster mom
has only heard me bark 3 times since I got to Collie Rescue. I love
people and playing with other dogs. I also recently started playing
with toys and may even start to fetch soon! My foster family has a cat
who's pretty old so I leave him alone, except for the occasional sniff.
I would love a family that takes me with them when they go on trips and
wants to hang out with me. I'd love to meet you!

Ben is about 3 years old and the most gentle collie that I have ever met. Ben is EXTREMELY SHY & sweet, and it takes time for him to trust people. However, once you gain his trust, he is your friend forever! He loves being loved on... belly rubs, ear rubs, brushing, he likes it all! Ben is looking for a forever home that will give him the patience, love, care and security that every dog deserves. Also, in order to build his confidence, he needs a home that has a confident dog.

Bette has been adopted!  This lucky girl is living with her new awesome family in Winston-Salem, NC!  She even has two girls as her new best friends.

Welcome to the world, Bette!  This pup was born in early June 2016 along with four others in the litter.  Their mother is a collie mix (see attached picture).  Although we do not know the father, the puppies are definitely collie mixes as well.  A rural Virginia shelter had no place to keep these puppies, so Collie Rescue, Inc. is helping find them some new forever homes!  Bette has a slight puppy heart murmur (It is very common for young puppies, to develop an innocent heart murmur while they are growing rapidly. The murmur may first appear at 6-8 weeks of age, and a puppy with an innocent heart murmur will usually outgrow it by about 4-6 months of age.)

BJ and Star were taken this summer from a home where they spent their time either crated in a garage, or tied to the front porch. BJ is 11 years old and Star is 9. The reason that they were tied up is that BJ, who is not neutered and who is also deaf kept walking through the electric fence and the owners were unwilling to set the flags back out to provide a visual cue. BJ and Star are both extremely sweet dogs and neither has an ounce of aggression. They are very quiet and calm, and are steadily becoming more frisky and healthy, and their eyes are bright and coats are softer after only a week in their foster home. They appear to be housebroken but have been closely supervised so far. They get along well with other dogs and love kids and people. They live to be petted and loved! Star has had obedience training and knows sit, stay and come. BJ follows her closely, so he’s well behaved too. Neither dog pulls on leash. BJ and Star do need to be placed together, since they are so closely bonded and he relies on her for guidance. Are you their person and their forever home?

Blaze is a tall, dark, and handsome mahogany-sable Collie male! He is estimated to be about two years of age. Blaze was just rescued from a high-kill shelter in rural Virginia so little is known about him at the time of this posting. He is currently being evaluated, so please check back for updates.

UPDATE 2/11/2008: Blaze is energetic, playful, intelligent and very loving. He enjoys playing with toys and gets a kick out of tossing them in the air! He gets along well with other dogs. Each day he gets better walking on the lead. He's crate trained and has a good appetite. Best of all, Blaze likes to cuddle next to you when he winds down--how sweet!

UPDATE 2/20/2008: Blaze is blossoming! He is very friendly toward people. Blaze’s favorite things include car rides and playing fetch, always asking for more! In fact, he is not shy about asking to play or to demand some patting and attention! He is a very companionable boy who would be a real delight for the actively interactive person or family.

Bo has found his new family and is living in Roanoke, Virginia!

This is Bo, a collie puppy who was born in March 2023.  He didn’t have the best start to life, but is now ready to find his forever home!  Bo would do best in a home with another young playful dog.  he is friendly and respectful, but very active and busy.  In fact, his favorite activity is to run!  He will need owners who would be willing to raise, train, and socialize a puppy.

He is a nice boy, super sweet, and an overall wonderful dog!  He’s very affectionate to everyone, and is happy to meet new people.  He also LOVES other dogs, and loves to make friends and play!  Like many pups, he is a bit hesitant about new and unfamiliar things, and gets particularly nervous when riding in cars.

Bo is still too thin to be neutered, but will be as soon as he gains a little more weight.  He is crate-trained for when his foster parents are not home, and also will sleep in the crate at night.  He is still learning to be housebroken, and we are working with him on learning manners while walking on a leash.   Bo is also still working on recognizing and responding to his name when called.

Bo Bo Baggins is a 2 yr old sheltie who is just a sweet as could be. Really, he's just a perfect and precious little housepet - great with other playful dogs, loves attention, housetrained, etc. He's shy at first with new people but warms up quickly... then you can't stop him - he's exploring and curious. He's a portable little bundle of joy - take him wherever you go - he'll love it.

One teeensy little detail:
Bo Bo, though not on any medication, requires a prescription kidney diet food permanently for chronic kidney problems. Staying on this food prevents him from needing medication. And, thus, he would require a situation similar to a retired couple who is home more often than not... who can let him out frequently and keep him on a great schedule, which will allow him to have the maximum quality of life possible.

He doesn't care for cats, and would probably be startled by the flailing movements of young children, so a two-dog, childless household would be PERFECT for this cute little punkin-boy. =)

Boedie was adopted and living with his new sister, Sheba (who was also adopted through CRI).  He is enjoying playing with Sheba and getting lots of love from his new mom & dad.  We just want to thank them for taking a senior collie into their hearts!

Once she gets a complete vet overhaul and thorough grooming, this cutie-pie will be available for you to bring into your heart and love forever. =)

Since coming to CRI, he’s been cleaned up, vetted and had to have major surgery on his eye – which will leave him blind in that eye.

Despite all this, Boomer is a sweet two year old with a wonderful, loving disposition. He knows how to sit and give paw, licks and comes running when you call his name. He loves to be among his people and follows his foster mom around like…a puppy – hoping to lay his head in her lap and get his ears rubbed.

Boomer has shown to get along very well with his siblings - (one male collie, one female collie, and one cat!). He'll play chase in the backyard with his foser brother dog...then he's content to lounge around the house, chew on a rawhide or just sleep. He’s not anxious or high strung. He is un-phased by the vacuum, disposal, door bell, garbage trucks, visitors and other normal household activities. (dogs barking on the TV...do get his attention!)

You can see that everything about living inside is new to him and he’s taking it all in. He’s learned all about slippery floors, sliding glass doors and after a week he has mastered the stairs!

The great thing about him is that even though everything is new, he is curious and willing to check it out. He really enjoys going on walks and has learned to walk very nicely on a leash.

Boomer LOVES praise. In fact, if you give too much of it, he gets very excited and wants to jump a bit. We think he'd be better suited for a home with older children, as he will need some training before we can trust that he won't accidentally knock over a little one!

He’s had no accidents in the house and sleeps contently in his crate at night.

Meet Boyd - a recently rescued collie boy with a heart of gold. We think he is 8 or 9 years old, and he came to Collie Rescue from the Humane Society of Charles County, where he was being cared for after being found as a stray. He was in need of some TLC and grooming when he was first found (he is Lyme / Ehrlichia +), but is already making great progress with some good medical / dental care and a bath. He is a very sweet dog and everyone who has meet him has fallen in love with his charm!

Brian walks great on a leash and is very good when he gets groomed! Brian is a good swimmer and rides well in the car. Brian LOVES meeting new people an engaging in new experiences. He is definitely a dog who can go anywhere with you!

Brian was most recently a model at the Reston Pet Fiesta (see photo 3) and wore a lovely jersey from the "Ruff Lauren" line. He's very cosmo.

Brody has been adopted and is living with his new family in Silver Spring, MD.  He is enjoying being the center of attention and getting lots of love!  He spends his days playing, going on long walks and visiting the doggie park!

Brody is happy, bouncy, energetic puppy who is almost  9 months old.  He is sweet and friendly, likes other dogs and is playful.  He is doing really well with housebreaking, no accidents at all.  He is a little fussy (and noisy) in the crate, but getting better each day – he just wants to be right with you all the time.  Brody knows some basic commands – sit, down, come, and we are working on “off” as he likes to jump up playfully.   We are also working on handling, as he is very squirmy with it.  He loves to run and play and doesn’t want to miss a thing!

Bruno has been adopted and will be starting off his life with a great new family!

Welcome to the world, Bruno! This pup was born on June 23, 2016 along with seven others in his litter. Check out the attached video of all the puppies! A picture of their mother, Cindy, is also attached.

The puppy’s mom, Cindy, came into Collie Rescue, Inc. in late June. The very next morning, she gave birth to a litter of nine puppies. Unfortunately, one pup did not survive. However, all of the other pups are doing great, and all of them are available for adoption! We do not know if they are full collie. We suspect that they may be mixed, but we can already tell they have a LOT of collie in them. Once they are weaned, we plan to do a DNA test on one of the puppies to find out their mix. Unfortunately, we can't do that before they are weaned.

The puppies are currently being fostered in Midland, Virginia, so you must be willing to go there to meet the puppies before adoption. The puppies will not be able to go to their new home until they are 8 weeks old (August 18th).

Buddy has been adopted!  He has been welcomed into the home of an awesome couple in Gaithersburg, MD who are going to treat him like a king! 

UPDATE:  We haven't had any inquiries on Buddy and we can't understand it! He is a truely special soul. He only needs his epilepsy medicine once a day (it just goes right in his food) and it is inexpensive. He hasn't had a seizure now in 5 months. He loves people/children/cats and ANY other dog! Buddy is good on a leash and good riding in the car. Buddy is loaded with personality!

Meet Buddy, a two-year-old male with a warm personality and a passion for horsing around with other four-legged friends.

Buddy is being treated for idiopathic epilepsy and takes medication twice daily. The great news is his epilepsy is under control while on medication and he has not had a seizure in three months!

Buddy is looking for a fun-loving home.  He is a very sweet guy who loves to horse around (especially with his other canine friends).  He is fully housetrained, but needs to be crated when left alone as he loves to discover new things to chew on. He's a great dog who isn't afraid to go to new places (the pics we have of him here are when he came with us to a Scottish festival).

Buddy's been adopted by a wonderful family in Bristow, VA.  He is enjoying walks, trips to the dog park, being spoiled by his grandparents, and most of all, running around the house with his collie sister (also adopted from CRI)!


Buddy, a 3 year old collie boy, came to us from a shelter where he was taken from the owner for neglect.  However, he is the happiest, friendliest collie you could ever meet!  The staff at our vet hospital when he first came in just adored him!

He loves meeting new people, going for walks, playing with chew toys, and sleeping on air conditioning vent.

He's always up for  a good game of chase with people or other dogs in the backyard. 

He's still figuring out hardwood floors and stairs, but that's pretty typical of an "outside dog". 

He really loves affection and will nudge you when he wants more!  Walks perfectly on a leash and is eager to please.

Buddy gets along well with other dogs, especially if they want to play chase.

Buddy is a pup who we rescued from a hoarding/neglect situation.  He is very sweet, but also very timid and is looking for a very quiet home with another confident dog from who he can learn to be a dog.  He needs someone to give him love and help him feel secure.

Well hello there, I’m Buddy!  Collie Rescue, Inc. was kind enough to take me in, and they think I am about 10 years old. My foster family says I am a sweet-natured pup with impeccable house manners, who knows his name, and comes when called. I have not had an accident in the house, nor do I sit on the furniture. I do not shed much, and I have medium length, fabulous soft caramel fur, and my foster says I am the perfect-sized medium doggy -- not too big and not too small. In the yard, I love to take a nap in the sunshine or on the porch, and sometimes when it is snowing, I like to slide down the hill on my face in the snow…doesn’t everybody? I have to live in a house with a secure fence. Don’t worry, I won’t jump over it, but if there is a hole or a way under it, I will get out and go greet the neighbors.

I like movie night and I am more than happy to sit by your feet in hope you will drop some popcorn...I do love popcorn. When it is time for a treat, I take it gently while I sit very pretty and give paw. I can be a bit shy at first, but once I get to know you, I will spend my time at home following you around as you do your chores, just in case you want to stop what you are doing and give me a belly rub. I don’t mind sharing you with other dogs (I live with three dogs at my foster home), as long as they are polite and respectful of other dogs.  But my foster wants you to know we are not sure if I like cats. I do go up and down the stairs, but the fewer the better, since I am getting a little mature. Speaking of mature, I do walk a bit slower these days and I am a bit sensitive about getting my front feet stepped on, so I should not be around children under 12. 

I don’t mind if you work a full time job, I am more than able to wait until you come home for a potty break. I do have a favorite bed, which I share politely with the other dogs. I am finishing my heart-worm treatment, I am not neutered, and I will most likely be on relatively inexpensive medication for arthritis for the rest of my life. I find getting my teeth brushed by foster a bit odd, but I don’t mind as long as the flavor is vanilla mint.  

Buddy is a sweet and shy reddish buff small cocker spaniel mix, weighing 15 lbs, and is approximately 2 to 3 years old. He is in good health, neutered, current on shots, and heartworm negative after being heartworm positive.

Buddy was rescued from a shelter by the Charlotte North Carolina Cocker Rescue League. Buddy has been in rescue for about a year and couldn't find a good and secure home in North Carolina. Buddy decided to pack up his bones and kibble and move to Northern VA in search of one. Collie Rescue has offered to help Buddy find it and all questions concerning Buddy will be coordinated through Collie Rescue.

Buddy's perfect home is with an adults only home or a family with older children. Buddy enjoys going for walks, playing ball, relaxing in the backyard, or just sitting on your lap while you watch TV or reading. He plays well with other dogs and loves the company of people.

Hi everyone, meet Buddy! Buddy is close to two years old and weighs 32 pounds.  He might be a Sheltie mix, but does not have the high-maintenance coat. He is high-energy and just crazy cute.   Buddy’s foster mom says she loves this little guy! He is sweet, cuddly, affectionate and so much fun! He will play ball endlessly – he brings it right back to you, and drops it at your feet to throw again!  Buddy loves to hike in the woods, splash in streams and puddles, and run and wrestle with his dog friends. He is smart and polite, solidly housebroken, doesn’t chew anything he’s not supposed to, and quiet.

Sadly, Buddy has had a tough life so far, and he is fearful of strangers and the urban environment and unpredictable kids. He will thrive in an understanding home with a big yard for big running, ideally stocked with lots of squirrels and another dog friend who is calm, non-dominating, and playful.

Buddy needs a family who is willing to learn how to introduce him to strangers (who are his best friends 15 minutes later) and protect him from scary things like neighbors coming out of houses, flapping flags, and rumbling garbage trucks. And once that family finds Buddy, and helps him understand that he is safe, they will fall in love with him and be forever grateful that this charming and cuddly guy is in their lives!

Caldwell has hit the jackpot and is living with his new family in Reston VA.  He is enjoying being the center of attention, going on long walks and he is looking forward to visiting his new beach home!

Calie hit the jackpot and was adopted by a lovely couple who adores collies! 

Meet Calie!  Calie was given up to us by her family because they had to move and could no longer take care of her.   She was born 9/2022.  Here's what her foster home reports:

Callie has been adopted!  She is living with a great couple who have all of the love and time to spend with her.  We thank them, as she is a little older and was diagnosed with a Grade 2 heart murmur, but that did not deter them from wanting to give her the loving home that she deserves!

Callum has found a new home in Williamsburg, Virginia! He's looking forward to tons of playtime and butt rubs from his new family.

Callum is a 1-year old male collie who loves to run and play. He is an energetic pup, who is always up for a ball toss or romp with his canine buddies. Callum is quite sweet while going on walks, and doesn’t feel the need to pull you around where he wants to go. He is also working on being a bit more patient about going through the door to go outside or getting his dinner. Best of all, he is starting to seek out affection from his human buddies, wiggling up for a butt rub or ear scratch, rather than always choosing to be independent and at arm’s length.

Callum needs a fenced yard so he can burn off steam at his flashy collie pace, whether that is through playing a game of fetch or chasing down squirrels. As a young collie, walking on leash at a sedate human rate is currently not enough to tire him out and satisfy him. But because he loves to be outside with his dog pals, by the time he comes inside he is tired and happy to settle down and snooze. At night he happily goes into his crate from about 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. without a peep.

Like many herding types, Callum likes to patrol the yard and is a vigilant watchdog. He can be reactive when he sees or hears lawn equipment like shovels, leaf blowers and mowers, or even if he sees someone carrying something large, like a lawn chair. So, he might need to be crated in a quiet room indoors if you have a housecleaning or landscaping crew show up every week.

Callum can be a bit bossy with other dogs, so finding appropriate playmates is important. His ideal home will have at least one other dog, who should be larger than him, more mature, and quite self-confident. The older dog will function like a mentor to him, and should also be able to hold his own as Callum matures. With juvenile playmates, resource guarding and/or bullying can crop up, so his playdates should always be supervised.

With his energy and drive, Callum is a great dog for an experienced owner who wants to train and do stuff with their dog. He will benefit from a lot of one-on-one time with his handler so that his energy can be channeled productively. The sky is the limit for this handsome lad!

Carmen passed away on March 8, 2014 while in the Senior Care Program at Collie Rescue, Inc.   She was an older dog whose arthritis and pain got to be too much for her.   She spent her final three years in a loving permanent foster home that will miss her very much.

Carmen was a very sweet and loving collie who was around 11 years old. She came into CRI as a stray who was underweight, but became much healthier thanks to her foster family.  Her favorite past time was to check out comfy spots on the couch and bed.  Her foster family said Carmen also loved to wear dresses and especially loved meeting Santa!  She was always very happy, loving, and sweet to everyone she met.   Sweet Carmen will be very missed by CRI and her foster family, but we will always remember this funny little girl.

Casey has been adopted and is living in the suburbs of Philadelphia with a wonderful family .

Casey recently arrived at Collie Rescue with his brother Shelby. He is two and a half years old, neutered, and in very good health (though he's on a fitness regimen to lose a few unwanted pounds.)

Casey is friendly, playful, likes other dogs and people. He can be a little reserved at first with strangers but quickly warms up. He is housebroken and a good eater. While not overly fond of grooming, but will tolerate if it’s done gently and for short periods of time. Overall, Casey is quiet, fairly calm, and has nice house manners. We are not sure how he will be with cats - he has shown lots of interest in smaller dogs, but hasn’t been aggressive with them  - mostly curious.

Casper passed away peacefully on July 31st at his foster home.  He spent his days there with a comfy foam bed to sleep on, a fan to keep him nice and cool, and lots and LOTS of cookies. 🙂  He was a sweet, tough 'ol boy who may not have had all the love and attention he deserved for most of his life, but brought happiness to those who met him through Collie Rescue.  We'll miss him very much!

Casper has found his new forever home in Glen Allen, Virginia!

Casper is a stunning adolescent male collie who knows how handsome he is. At 75 pounds, this 10-month old loves to spend time outside romping with the other dogs and pups and doing collie things. Casper is surprisingly calm and well-mannered on his leash walks, as long as he has time and space to run and play off-leash. He is not a high-energy dog but likes to be busy, so he would do well with someone who can channel him in a productive manner. At his foster home, he settles well in his crate with a good chew (we use a Bully Buddy with bully sticks, Achilles tendons, braided bullies, cow tails, and other natural EDIBLE chews), and is going to start learning about different treat-dispensing toys. He will transition well to a home which can keep him on a schedule of structured exercise (walks, training), play (off-leash romping, preferably with other dogs), and then confined down-time with some chews to keep him busy. He is a very sweet boy who enjoys petting and grooming. Like many adolescent collies, he can be a bit nippy, so we are teaching him better ways of soliciting affection and love in a calm and respectful manner. Casper would do fine with a large male or female dog as a companion in his new home. 

Cassandra has been adopted by a wonderful family in Springfield, VA! She is looking forward to long walks with her parents and stories from her human siblings. She is being showered with love and we couldn't be happier for her and her new family!

Meet sweet Cassandra! This lovable 2-year-old collie girl is a genuinely nice as they come. Her foster mom describes her as a delightful, happy girl! She is very responsive and respectful of her humans and lives to make everyone's day!

Cassandra is heartworm positive and being treated. Since she is new to rescue we are just getting to know her. As we learn about her we'll post more on this gorgeous collie, so please check back!

Cassie has been adopted and is living in Falls Church with her new collie sister and Mom.   She is enjoying going on walks, playing in her big backyard, and vacationing from time to time at her new lake house!

Cassie is just about the sweetest girl you will ever meet! Miss Cassie is a tri-factored white collie with a sable head and is approximately 3 years old. She is just a beautiful girl! These pictures were taken immediately when she arrived in rescue, before her bath. We'll add more pictures as soon as she groomed. Cassie likes other dogs, although she is a little shy at first, and is respectful of cats - she sniffs and then that's about it. She LOVES people and takes direction very well.

Cassie's foster parents are working on some basic obedience with her - which should be easy since she is VERY interested in food! She's learning sit, down, come, and paw and she seems very smart and eager to please. Cassie seems new to walking on a lead but again takes direction very well. She sticks right with you and just needs some practice with it. So far she rides very well in the car. 

Cassie came to us very thin and dirty, so the order of the day is having her gain a little weight, get groomed, and begin to acclimate to her foster home. So far she is doing great!

We'll post updates once she gets a bit more settled, but we can already tell that this little girl is a gem with a heart of gold.

Cassie is a mild mannered 7 year old lady whose owners were moving cross country and couldn't take her with them.

She's only been with her foster family a short time. So far, she's shown herself to be a well mannered, somewhat reserved, girl who just wants to be around her people.

She gets along well with her big foster brother dog and has shown no behavior issues. Although she is sensitive to a raised voice or sharp tones.

At first, she may not seem gregarious. She's not anxious or nervous, but she is a bit tentative meeting new people. No worries - because eventually she'll wander over and lay her head in your lap in hopes of a nice ear rub.

She would do well in a low key household looking for a wonderful companion collie.

She walks very nicely on a leash, is housebroken and is scheduled to be spayed shortly.

When she arrived at CRI, our vets put her on some medication for apparent joint pain and some ear/eye irritations. It usually takes a few weeks for new arrivals to adjust and start showing their true dispositions so check back often for updates.

Cayman and Pal were adopted together and living with their new family in Bethesda, MD.  They are excited because they scored a great loving and attentive family!  They are enjoying lots of hugs and walks!

Could Pal and Cayman be a cuter pair? They're both three years old and very well-mannered with sweet dispositions. Cayman rides great in the car, walks well on a lead, and gets along wonderfully with other dogs. He even like being groomed - any attention is good! He is a little more reserved than Pal, but still a loving dog and a great addition to the right home.

Cayman and Pal came from the same home but are available for adoption separately.

This collie boy romps around chasing his collie foster brother like the rest of them - he plays tag, loves his toys, his chewies, and Your food as well (don't give in! he's a persistant little stinker...). He's got an awesome sense of humor, (he might goose you when you're not looking...) is gentle with children, other dogs and does surprisingly well in crowd situations.

Give this boy a chance. His 'disability' is hardly disabling to this boy - so don't consider it a burden (unless you wanted him to herd sheep, that might take a while...)

Charlie was adopted by a lovely couple who live in Maryland.  His new mom is a dog trainer, and Charlie will be training and working with her! 

Charlie is a healthly, exuberant, 1 year old boy with a full coat and a wonderful disposition. He was an owner give up, due to a moving situation. He’s full of energy, and the whole world is a very exciting place to behold. His tail never stops wagging. He LOVES meeting new people and gets excited to see dogs. (And we’ll be working on his greeting manners). He quickly learned proper leash behavior and can't wait to go on his twice daily walks that helps burn off some of his youthful energy. In the few days since he’s been with us we know that he has a submissive nature with his people and responds quickly to focused direction and consistent boundaries. He sleeps well in his crate & seems to be housetrained. As he settles in with his foster family, we’ll update his profile, so check back often.

Chase is in good health, has been checked by a vet, is up-to-date on vaccinations, is on heartworm and flea & tick preventative, and is microchipped in the rescue's name. He is a great dog and is ready to go to a new family at any time.

Chase came to us as an owner give up from So. Virginia and his foster family can’t believe he hasn’t been adopted yet. He’s a great Collie!

He’s an outgoing, confident, healthy 2 ½ year old boy with a full, soft, coat and big brown eyes. He’s a little small for a male, but very solid and what he lacks in size, he more than makes up for in personality. This boy has spunk.

Chase is very friendly and loaded with youthful exuberance

He’s curious, confident and very eager to please. When he gets excited he will try and jump up - so a household with small children wouldn’t be ideal – and his foster family working to correct this.

Not surprisingly, he’s proving to be a very quick learner. He’ obviously has had some obedience work. He’s consistent and knows sit-stay, down-stay, comes when called and is very food motivated. He sleeps in his crate and will spend time in it during the day, without complaint.

Since joining his foster family, he has learned to settle down and now follows them around...like a puppy dog...hoping to get his ears rubbed or just be next to you as you work. He just needs a family that will show him what to do and be consistent with him.

He loves working on his chew bone and gets very excited about going for his daily walks, trips in the car or exploring the dog park.

Chase gets along with his foster brother dog and hasn’t showed any aggressive traits while eating or with any of the dogs he meets on his long daily walks or at the local dog park. He LOVES exploring the dog park and will always find another dog to wrestle with…but it never gets out of hand.

His ideal home must be able to give him attention, stimulation and consistent leadership. If you’re looking for a running partner – agility dog - or a working buddy, he’s your guy!

He’ll want to be at your side and when you show him, he'll do exactly what you want him to do.

Chauncey is a handsome chocolate male Cocker Spaniel who is approximately 5 years old. Chauncey was rescued from a shelter in North Carolina and adopted out to a lady who lived in a home that had a large backyard for Chauncey to relax and play in. She and Chauncey moved earlier this year from North Carolina to the Northern VA area. She rented a small apartment and realized quickly that due to her workload, she was away from home too long and felt she was neglecting Chauncey. He was used to being walked and played with and now he was left alone long hours and unhappy. For this reason, Chauncey is now back in rescue looking for a home with a secure family who is willing to give him the attention and time he is looking for.

Chauncey would do well in an adult home or a family with older children for him to play with. He walks well on a leash and enjoys going for a car ride or sitting next to you on the sofa while you read or watch TV. Chauncey is neutered, current on shots, heartworm negative and looking for a forever family who needs a best friend!

Cheddar has been adopted and is living with his family in Dalton, MA.

Chloe is a sweet 7-year-old collie girl who is living with her new family in Knoxville, Maryland. Our rescue family will miss you, Chloe, but we're so happy you've found your forever home!

Our girl Chloe has been adopted! Chloe is going to a wonderful family in Maryland. She is enjoying tons and tons of love and attention - we are so happy for her!

She's Baaaaaaaack!.

Chloe was adopted by a an absolutely wonderful family in the Bedford, VA area but unfortunately - and through no fault of her own -  the other dog in the house had a very difficult time dealing with and sharing space with a new canine family member.

She will soon be back with her foster family and looking for a home to share her love of life. 

She adores people, giving young and old alike lots of licks and kisses, rolling over for belly/ear rubs and she is very eager to please.

With other dogs, she’s no push over. She’s very confident and will let another dog know if they’re getting “too” interested. She quickly established her relationship with her big brother foster dog and now they’re good friends, sharing chew bones, sleeping areas and daily play/chase sessions.

She LOVEs the dog park and is in constant motion herding the other dogs or just finding somebody to play chase.  She has great doggie manners and is very respectful of the other dogs.

We introduced her to some cats that were dog friendly, and she was interested, but not at all obsessed.  She would probably be fine with a cat that "knows" dogs.

Chloe knows basic commands. Sit - down - comes on a whistle - wait for her food. She’s good on a lead, loves her walks and seeing the world. A healthy prey drive keeps her very alert and on the look out for squirrles in the backyard.

She sleeps in her crate at night without a peep, but during  the day, she's not too thrilled to be in the crate, away from her people.  When left alone in her crate , she'll protest for a few minutes and will eventually settle down.  

Her perfect family will understand this girl NEEDS strong, confident leadership - to match her confident personality and will give it to her. If that’s you, she’ll make a wonderful aDdition to your family giving you loyalty, laughs and lots of love. 

There were so many times in my life that I wished for someone who could run and play with me, or take me for long walks, but my former owner was too ill to do those things. Still, I was content to be with her for the time that we had, because I loved her, and she loved me.

My owner was taken to the hospital in October of last year. I waited patiently for her to return, but she never did. That’s when I was sent to Collie Rescue. It was a sad time for me and very confusing. I didn’t know what would become of me, but my foster family took me in, and promised me that they would take good care of me. They promised me that, eventually, they would find the perfect forever home for me. And I’m happy to say that they made good on their promise!

Because of my sedentary lifestyle, I weighed 99 pounds when I was rescued. I was in good health, but, being so heavy, I wasn’t very fit. I couldn’t even jump into the car to be transported. And I wondered if I’d ever be able to run and play with a new family. I wondered if I’d ever be able to live the life I’d always wished for, but had never had.

My foster family put me on a special diet and helped me get some exercise while we waited for a new adopter. Day by day, I became more physically fit. Within 8 weeks, I’d slimmed down to 87 pounds, and I was able to hop up into the car to go for rides. I do love the car!

I was happy with my new foster family. They helped me through those first difficult weeks following my former owner’s death. They were so kind and supportive, helping me get back on my feet physically and emotionally. And, although they had responsibilities to each other and the other dogs in their care, they always made me feel loved and special. But still, I wanted a permanent home, and someone all my very own. When I was introduced to Kathy, I knew the day had come.

Kathy had recently lost her dog, Ruby; her beloved companion of nearly 10 years. Ruby died unexpectedly, just as my former owner had died unexpectedly. I knew immediately when I met her that we were two of a kind; two souls nursing broken hearts, both of us needing someone to love again.

I have so much in common with Kathy. We’re both quiet, but we like company. We enjoy a leisurely stroll through the neighborhood and curling up on the couch … I’m not really supposed to be on the couch, but she doesn’t seem to mind that I want to be near her. Best of all, we both love kids.

Kathy has terrific kids who run and play with me every day. Thomas, 15, always starts a good game with me when he gets home from school and Joseph, 11, takes me for walks in the afternoon. I get lots of cuddles and lots of play time every day.

Life isn’t all fun and games, though. We all have jobs to do. Kathy works at home, which, without a good companion, can be very lonely and isolating. That’s where I come in. My job is to spend the day with her and keep her company. I nudge her when I think she’s working too hard, just to let her know when we need a stretch of the legs, or if it’s time for her to give me one of the treats that she keeps in that nice jar on her desk. I also let her know when someone comes to the door, or when there’s something out of the ordinary happening that I think she should know about.

I love my life now. I have a comfortable and loving home, a fitter and healthier lifestyle, a great job herding Kathy and the kids, and treats from time to time (always mindful of my diet, of course)! And there’s even an old curmudgeon of a cat who needs a little excitement from time to time.

I’ll never forget the woman who loved and cared for me for the first 5 years of my life. But I know that she always wanted the best for me. Thanks to my foster parents at Collie Rescue, I have the best of the best!

Chloe is a 15 month old teenager who enjoys running and playing. She runs very fast so sometimes all four feet are off the ground! She is very friendly and loves everyone. She gets along with other dogs. Her only vice is that she likes to jump on people when she gets excited, so we are working on that! When in a crate she complains if you are visible, but settles down when its "lights out" and stays quiet all night.

Chloe is a collie who loves life. Now all she needs is a family for her to love too!

Chuck, who now goes by "Lenny," was adopted and will be living in Hampton, Virginia. Way to go, Chuck! 

Cindy is heading to her new home in Edgewater, MD where she will be the center of attention and enjoy hanging out with her new humans!

Cindy is an approximately 2 year old collie who came to us while pregnant from a rural Maryland shelter. She had her puppies and they have all been adopted, so she is now ready to find her forever home. She truly loves people and is very responsive to verbal direction. She is eager to please her humans! She is crate trained and housebroken.

While Cindy had her pups, she was not very good with other dogs (understandably). Now that the pups are gone, Cindy has been much much better with the other dogs. She does best with other social and playful dogs. She may show some bossiness when introduced to a new dog, but with supervision and guidance she has been great and respectful. She does get protective (only with other dogs - not people) around her food and crate (she is a resource guarder).

Cindy is a one-year-old collie who has found her new forever home!  She's enjoy plenty of walks and playtime with her new family. 



 

Cindy was adopted by a fun family from VA Beach. She joins three human siblings, a big Tri Collie brother and some feline friends. This happy girl will enjoy lots of playtime, walks and attention!

Cindy is a sparkling 15 month old that has all the makings of a GREAT family dog.

She was an owner give up because the family's schedule meant she would have to stay in her crate for up to 9 hours a day. They knew this wasn't fair to this wonderful girl so they called us to find her a great family for this great dog.

She was raised with 3 kids and a cat, will let you know when she needs to go outside,knows basic commands and is learning to walk nicely on a leash. She's a very smart girl that is eager to please and highly food motivated so additional training should be a cinch.

For an adolescent dog she has a moderate energy level and will calm right down when asked. She has a health prey drive - she loves to chase tennis balls, fetch sticks, run off trespassing squirrels, bark at butterflys and scan the trees for birds.  Once the intruders have been chased off, she'll just lounge on the porch with her chew bone.

In the house, she has great manners and loves to meet new people without getting over excited of jumpy. Normal household sounds – door bell, disposal, etc... don't seem to bother her at all.

She would love to find a family that will give her the physical/mental exercise a “teenage” dog needs, the attention she desires and the love she deserves.

Cinnamon is ADOPTED! She is off to her new home with her new Mom all to herself! She will be having lots of walks and play time and a home of her own! YAY CINNAMON!

Cinnamon is a healthy, happy, curly coat, 8 year old collie girl who was given up by her senior owners because of their medical issues.

She's a very low maintenance girl who would be a great additon to a low key home. 

After a month of being boarded, she's now with her foster family and making herself at home on her blanket. She's great on a leash, seems to be cat indifferent, gets along well with her foster brother dog and appears to know basic commands.

Clark has been adopted and is living with his new family in Stafford, Virginia.  This sweet, shy pup has a lot to look forward to with two little boys to play with!  He also has a new older four-legged sibling, Jordan, to help show him the ropes!

Welcome to the world, Clark!  This pup was born in early July 2016 along with four others in the litter.  Their mother is a collie mix (see attached picture).  Although we do not know the father, the puppies are definitely collie mixes as well.   A rural Virginia shelter had no place to keep these puppies, so Collie Rescue, Inc. is helping find them some new forever homes!

The puppies are currently being fostered in Centerville, Virginia, so you must be willing to go there to meet the puppies before adoption. If you are interested in adopting one of these pups, please complete our adoption questionnaire. Once you are cleared for adoption and you meet the puppies, we will accept a $100 non-refundable deposit.

Cleo has moved to Ellicott City, MD with her new best friend!  She is enjoying walks and the comfort of living in her wonderful new home.

A major congratulations to Miss Cloe for finding her new forever home!  She is now living in Rockville, MD with a new family who plans to give her tons of walks and plenty of love to last a lifetime. 

Miss Cloe is an easygoing, low-key collie girl who loves seeing the world during her outdoor walks. She is about 9-10 years old.

Her foster family said she has settled in nicely, and quickly found her perfect “spot” under the kitchen table over the AV vents. From there, she can keep an eye on everyone, watch the comings and goings of the house, or take a snooze. Cloe likes to stay close to her people, and likes to approach (backwards) to ask for some butt scratches. General household noises and activities don’t bother her – she doesn’t mind the doorbell, vacuum, and other noises.

The highlight of her day is going out for walks! Cloe loves them. She walks well on a leash, and is very calm when meeting new people and new dogs. Her foster family says that she will be a very nice companion dog who is happy to just lay at one’s feet and hang out.

Meet Coby, a young, mixed breed sweetheart.  Everybody who meets him falls in love… and he returns the favor with lots of licks and happy to see you tail wagging. 

We believe he’s under a year old and he still has a lot of puppy energy. 

His foster family reports that he quickly learned house manners.  After an initial settling in period, he’s had no house breaking accidents, is learning to take long naps and loves to run around the yard chasing a tennis ball or finding sticks. 

He gets along well and respects his big brother foster collie.  He’s very bright and learns quickly.  His favorite treats are ice cubes, which he’ll do ANYTHING you ask of him to get one. 

He’s a lil’ guy.  When he first arrived at CRI he was a bit under weight at 30lbs but has since put on a few healthy pounds.  There was also a concern about his hind leg.  

We’re happy to report that after meeting with specialist it was determined that even though he had an old fracture when he was very young which healed on it’s own, it did result in an abnormal growth plate in his knee and that surgery was not necessary. 

An evaluation by a Physical Therapist determined that he’s minimally affected at this time and gave him a plan to help build up his muscles. 

All of this has not slowed him down one bit, doing what puppies love to do, run, jump, chase sticks and balls and go for walks. 

Overall, Coby is a very bright, eager to please lil’ guy. He’s a clean slate and is looking to find someone to love on.

Coco gets along great with other dogs, cats, children, and adults! He's just the nicest dog you will meet. Whoever let this one go was CRAZY!

Coco was adopted and is living with a great family in MD.  She is enjoying long walks through the park and lots of love!

Cody has been adopted by a couple in Alexandria, VA who plan to give him lots of attention!  Great going, Cody!

Cody is a beautiful, young male collie who loves to play. The first things you will notice about Cody are his full coat and intelligent expression. He looks much larger than his 60 pounds because of his beautiful, sable and white coat.   His foster family says he’s a pure collie: sweet, affectionate, intelligent, and great with other dogs.

He’s a quick learner too!  He will gladly sit for a treat, and then takes the reward very politely from your hand. Cody happily enters his crate when it’s naptime, and has not had an accident in the house since arriving into foster care. He is also very happy walking along on a leash, although he likes to visit with any dog he meets.  In fact, one of his cutest habits is picking up another dog’s leash and “walking” the other dog while they play!

At one year of age, Cody is full of puppy energy and fun.  He’ll need to have a fenced-in yard and a family that enjoys playtime as much as he does.   He loves to play with other dogs, so he would do well in a home with another young dog.  Playtime in dog parks would be great for him!  His foster family also has two cats, which he finds interesting.  Like many collies, Cody will nibble when he is playing with other dogs or showing affection to his foster parents.  

He is friendly, eager to learn, and will make a fine family dog.   If you are looking for a sweet, loving rough coated collie, Cody is the one!

Great news - Cole has been adopted and is bound for the beaches of North Carolina.  He will have a collie sister to pal around with as well. 🙂

Colleen has been adopted by a great family in New York's souther tier - they love to go for walks and she will be getting lots of love and attention. 

Cookie has been adopted and is living with her new family in Arlington, Virginia. Way to go, Cookie!

Some dogs are so sweet, you have to name them literally.  Cookie is a friendly girl who was born on July 6, 2018.  She loves to play, loves children, and loves other dogs.  In fact, she loves her people so much that she prefers to be attached at the hip with you!  She can get a bit nervous around unfamiliar things to her, and we are hoping to find her a home that already has a confident dog to be her buddy.  She is crate trained.  Check back soon for more information about this little Cookie!

Cooper has been adopted and is living with his new best friends in Washington, D.C.  He is learning about a whole new world and enjoying walks at the park and meeting new people and dogs!

Meet Cooper! He is a 7-month-old puppy who is available for adoption. His sibling, Cletus, is also available for adoption (to a separate home).   In the pictures, Cletus is the bigger one and Cooper is the smaller one.  Cooper is very sweet and friendly, but he definitely needs some love and attention, and an owner who can help him learn about the world and socialization.  He needs a home with a confident dog and a family that will have lots of time to play and give them some training!  Both Cletus and Cooper are waiting to be neutered, so they won’t be available until mid to late January. However, we are currently accepting adoption applications.

Cooper has been adopted and hit the jackpot with a new collie sister and an awesome human family that lives in Washington, D.C.  

Welcome to the world, Cooper! This pup was born on June 23, 2017 along with six others in the litter.  A picture of their mother is also attached.  Their father was Shiloh, a dog that we recently adopted to a great home.  So, these are purebred collie pups!!  

The puppies are currently being fostered in Midland, Virginia, so you must be willing to go there to meet the puppies before adoption.   The puppies will not be able to go to their new home until they are 8 weeks old (around August 20).

Once you have gone through our screening process and are cleared for adoption, you can meet the puppies.  If you decide to adopt, we accept a $100 non-refundable deposit to hold your puppy until it is 8 weeks old at which time it can go home! 

Copper has been adopted and is living with his new family in Ashburn, VA.  He has a new dog brother named Bogart who enjoys playing!  Copper is looking forward to walks and spending time with his new family!

Daisy has been adopted by a wonderful family! She is looking foward to long walks, trips to the nearby beach and tons and tons of love!

Meet little miss Daisy! Daisy is 3 year old collie girl who finally has the chance for a happy, normal life. Daisy spent the first three years of her life tied to a post in her owner's backyard. Despite her lack of exposure to living in a house and being around humans, Daisy has a natural love of people and she totally digs the comforts of home. Daisy loves treats, knows sit and down, always comes when called (she really loves her humans!) and has the makings of a huge snuggle bug. Judging on thew few walks she's been on, she'll be great on a lead. She's very responsive to direction and commands. Although she is still getting settled, she exudes love and a very sweet nature.

Although Daisy will explore the backyard with her kanine foster brother, she isn't too interested in playing at this point. She likes to meet dogs and then go on her merry way. She is very respectful of her elderly feline foster brother. 

The order of the day for Daisy is getting used to being in a house - all of the noises, rules, routines, and ordinary comings and goings. So far she is acclimating beautifully and taking it all in. She is truly a beautiful (literally! gorgeous coat), marvelous pup! 

In the weeks since coming into the rescue, she has been spayed, cleaned up and is now putting on some weight.

Her foster family reports that this petite little girl is very sweet, low key and respectful with everyone in the family. She still has a very hearty appetite and by getting regular, nutritious meals, the luster is coming back into her coat.

As she's become more comfortable in her foster home, she's shown that, like most collies, she wants to be around her people.

Around the house, she has shown very good manners. There have been no housebreaking issues, no jumping on visitors, counters or furniture. She is not a barker - other than the typical collie watch dog bark and normal daily sounds and activities don't seem to bother her at all.

She is not a chewer, but she does love to carry around her pink pig.

On her first trip to a dog park she showed good dog "manners". Nicely interacted with both the people and the dogs - avoiding the nasty dogs - and playing a chase game with a collie mix. A nice suprise was that she consistantly came right over when she was called!

She walks nicely on a loose leash and is learning to consistantly follow basic commands such as sit, come and down.

Her prefered/favorite spot is in her crate. It is becoming her little den. She calmly settles into her closed crate at night.

A true beauty! Shy at first, Dakota will warm up and then warm your heart! This mellow five year old girl gets along well with other dogs. She also rides well in the car.

Dakota’s voice was taken from her; sadly she was debarked sometime in her past. But the joy of life shines from her sparkling eyes!

He just came into rescue, so we are learning more about him. Please check back for updates.

DeeDee has found her forever home in Reston, Virginia with her fabulous new family!

Say hello to DeeDee!  She is about 6 years old and was born January 1, 2016.  She is a super sweet collie who is looking for a new family to call her own!  DeeDee gets along well with both dogs and cats, and is very loving.  She arrived at Collie Rescue, Inc. with some extra weight, so we are helping her go on a diet and she is doing great so far.  

Delilah has a new family!  She is living in Sterling VA and loving being the center of attention!

Delilah is an energetic dog who loves to walk and explore. She is always up for an adventure in the park or watching for squirrels out the window.
She loves to cuddle and get belly or butt rubs. She definitely wants to be where her humans are.

Delilah is good with cats, says hi and tries to play. She loves her toys and wants to zoom around the backyard and play.

She walks well on the leash and takes in the world around her.

Denver has been adopted!  She is living with her new mom in Columbia, MD and enjoying being the center of attention! 

This young collie girl will be 2 years old in July.  Her previous owner loved her but gave her up due to both financial hardship and a time-consuming schedule. Denver, for the most part, is rambunctious and healthy, although she does test positive for Lyme disease. We encourage potential owners to discuss this issue with their vets. Denver is completely house and crate trained.

Denver is so well-behaved, according to her foster parent, that she is a joy to be around! She would love to be a part of a family again. Won’t you consider adopting this people-loving, sweet-tempered collie into yours?

Dewey was picked up as a stray by a rural VA shelter. He came into our rescue on 10/14/07. The picture where he's all dirty was taken when he first came in. He was very badly matted, but with a lot of grooming, he now has a beautiful coat. So far, he is very good natured and gregarious. We have also found that Dewey knows basic obedience commands such as sit, down, give paw, and watch. Dewey gets along well with other dogs and loves to ride in the car. He is very smart and has a lot of energy, so he's looking for a person who can give him a job to do.

Diablo has been adopted.  Way to go, Diablo!

CRI is helping a handsome and sweet german shephard find a new forever home. Don't let his name fool you! The only devilish thing Diablo will do is steal your heart!  He's a healthy 9 year old, and is incredibly sweet.

Right now, he is living in a home in Maryland where he runs free on a large acreage property, but is allowed to stay inside the house as well. This german shephard enjoys chasing wildlife that cross into his "property," keeping his family safe from harm.  His current family would like to retire him from being a guard dog, but CRI is helping Diablo find a new home instead. He's great with other dogs and currently lives with a cat - although he has fun chasing the cat!

Diesel has been adopted by an awesome family in Alexandria, VA! He and his human brother will be turning 1 tugether next month. He is enjoying his daily runs and loads of love and attention! His new family plans to help him learn some new commands and he may even get a few doggy playdates with his foster brothers!

Diesel is a very happy 10 month old collie boy with a great disposition. He is brand new to Collie Rescue, and has just been neutered. 

Diesel has been diagnosed with a condition that affects collies known as Dermatomyositis (DM).  To learn more about DM, please go to:  http://www.upei.ca/~cidd/Diseases/dermatology/dermatomyositis.htm.  He has been to a specialist and is currently taking Vitamin E, Omega 3 supplements, and a medication that will help him. 

Diesel was shaved before he was given to us, and he is currently working on growing back his beautiful coat for the winter! 

Diesel has a great temperment... in fact, he's got the temperment that all collies should have!  He has a desire to please, he is inquisitive, fun loving and affectionate!  He loves people and dogs and cats and just about anything else!  He is a pup, and does still like to chew a little bit, so when his foster mom can't watch him, he is crated.  He is housetrained too.

Dingo is about 5 months old and is a lovely sable & white color. He is virtually housebroken and leash trained, too! He is also up-to-date on vaccinations, on heartworm preventative, protected against fleas & ticks by the use of Frontline, and microchipped. He is scheduled for his neuter in early October 2006.

Dolly has been adopted and is going to her new home in Fredricksburg, Virginia!

Welcome to the world, Dolly!  This pup was born on June 23, 2016 along with seven others in her litter.  Check out the attached video of all the puppies!  A picture of their mother, Cindy, is also attached.  

The puppy’s mom, Cindy, came into Collie Rescue, Inc. in late June. The very next morning, she gave birth to a litter of nine puppies. Unfortunately, one pup did not survive. However, all of the other pups are doing great, and all of them are available for adoption!

The puppies are currently being fostered in Midland, Virginia, so you must be willing to go there to meet the puppies before adoption. The puppies will not be able to go to their new home until they are 8 weeks old (August 18th).  The puppies are a mix.

Dolly has been adopted and is living in her new home in Washington, D.C. She is looking forward to all kinds of outings and fun walks in the park!

Dolly is a two-year-old collie mix.  She is a super sweet pup!  She was picked up from a rural shelter where she had some puppies, but has since been spayed.  All of her puppies have found homes, and now she is ready to find hers! 

She is getting comfortable in her foster home, where she enjoys being in any room with people to take a snooze or chew on a bone.  Dolly is crate trained, house-broken, great on a leash, and is a great listener who is eager to please.  In fact, she is naturally smart and knows exactly what you're asking of her.  She will be easy to train, especially if she knows that she will be rewarded with food or positive reinforcement.   If her big nose sniffs something sweet, it will be sure to grab her attention and curiosity!

She has no problems meeting people or other dogs, but tends to avoid more hyper dogs. We are currently treating her for yeast infection on her skin, which will be cleared up soon! Dolly is keen and attentive, and makes great eye contact to try and figure out what you're asking of her.  She will be a very sweet addition to a very lucky home!

Domingo is housebroken, adores children, is great with cats and other dogs, is equally as good inside the house as he is out, enthusiastically joins in family activites, loves taking walks, rides eagerly in the car, greets guests with respect, and is not intimidated by anything! He is, in short, a notable Collie!

Domingo is a sable merle collie boy who is 8 years old. Unfortunately, his previous family did not take very good care of him, and he is extremely overweight. However, with the new year, he is diligently fasting & exercising, and hopes to lose it as quickly as he can!

Good boy that he is, Dom is not a chewer, and hasn't chewed on any of the multitude of toys his foster family has provided him , except to enjoy a Nylabone when being brushed.

Dora has been adopted and is living with her new best friend in Manassas, VA! 

Lil’ Dora is sweet, petite, and just the cutest pup on the street! She is about 5-6 years old, but weighs only 35 pounds and needs to gain a little weight. But rest assured, she is a collie - just petite!

Dora loves to meet new people, running right up to say hello and gain your affection.  She’s currently living with a foster family and has been adjusting well. They say Dora is very bright, alert, attentive, and very responsive. She doesn’t know any formal commands, but is motivated by food or praise, so this smart girl has quickly gotten the hang of the basics.  She enjoys sleeping and hanging out in her crate without any problems, but when she’s out, you’ll find her sitting next to you -- head plopped in your lap, hoping to get some pets.

Dora may be a small collie, but she has a big heart and a lot of love to share! She is definitely a keeper, and can’t want to find her new forever home.

Doris has been adopted and is living with her new family in Columbia, Maryland.  What a wonderful way to start the rest of her life!

Welcome to the world, Doris!  This pup was born in early July 2016 along with four others in the litter.  Their mother is a collie mix (see attached picture).  Although we do not know the father, the puppies are definitely collie mixes as well.   A rural Virginia shelter had no place to keep these puppies, so Collie Rescue, Inc. is helping find them some new forever homes!

The puppies are currently being fostered in Centerville, Virginia, so you must be willing to go there to meet the puppies before adoption. If you are interested in adopting one of these pups, please complete our adoption questionnaire. Once you are cleared for adoption and you meet the puppies, we will accept a $100 non-refundable deposit.

Duke has been ADOPTED!  He was adopted into a wonderful family and now has kids of his own to play with! 

Meet Duke! Duke is a very nice 3-4 year old collie boy. He came into Collie Rescue, Inc. after his owner passed away. By all accounts, he is a sweet dog and loves to play with other dogs. He is very friendly with children and adults. He is a little overweight so he's on a diet and getting lots of play time.

We're still learning more about him, but early experience indicates that Duke is a great family dog.

Duke is a neutered and current on all vaccines.

Duncan is a very happy, social, affectionate 3-year old collie boy. He was rescued from a rural VA shelter where he was picked up as a stray, and was in poor condition. With love and care, his fur is now growing back - getting back to being a beautiful collie.

He is very friendly with people and dogs. Duncan is quickly learning all the things he apparently was not taught, like walking on a leash and receiving his pedicures. And playing - he loves fetching his kong-ball.

Duncan is looking for an active family to go on adventures with! He loves to ride in the car and gets along well with everyone he meets!
